After bringing back the Main Street Electrical Parade for an open-ended run, Disney World is continuing along on a retro-streak by adding the original PeopleMover name to what has been known only as the Tomorrowland Transit Authority since 1994.
Long-time Disney fans know that the ride, which carries passengers on a track above Tomorrowland giving riders a view of many of the attractions in the area, was originally called the WEDway PeopleMover when it opened in 1975. WED (Walter Elias Disney’s initials) Enterprises was the original name for what has now become Disney Imagineering. In 1994, the name of the ride was changed to Tomorrowland Transit Authority, but the name never really stuck. Dedicated Disney fans have always referred to it as the “WEDway,” or PeopleMover.
While the same attraction in Disneyland has long since been closed, the technology can also be experienced at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
